Belize: an English-speaking haven in the heart of Central America. This escape from the cold of Charlotte during winter break will introduce you to the ecology and history of this small country with a specific emphasis on one of Belize’s most well known trademarks: chocolate. You will study the rich history behind this luscious treat in the prep class that will take place during Fall 2013. In addition to Belize’s chocolate history, you will also learn about its ecology and how it has changed over time before traveling into the jungle, caves, and rivers of the country itself. See manatees, mangrove trees, sharks, and waterfalls as you trek across the country’s numerous landscapes. It will be a fascinating (and delicious) break from Charlotte as well as an opportunity to learn about and understand this small piece of paradise. Students will earn up to five hours of JBIP credit. This is an OPEN program.
