Program Description

COINED INTERNATIONAL
The Coined Spanish Language School was founded in 1985 as the academic branch of the Argentine exchange student organization "Comisión de Intercambio Educativo", better known in Spanish as COINED.

COINED is a non-profit organization active in the field of intercultural exchange and international education since 1971.

In Ushuaia, COINED is offering its Spanish Immersion Program with 2 very effective features which ensure you to have a fun and faster learning process while getting to enjoy this beautiful location as much as possible.

The Spanish classes normally take place in the teacher's home. Students love this system as they become totally immersed in the language. The teacher’s home becomes your classroom and you will be in an ideal environment to put into practice everything that you are learning. Our experienced teachers will share experiences and many aspects of daily life with you so that they will discover your skills and needs. This makes the learning process much faster and natural because otherwise those aspects would take longer to identify in just a typical classroom setting.

Another choice is to take private classes in the student's home. This is only possible when the student books individual classes. Then, one of our teachers will go to the home of the student and teach in a very personalized way, attending the student specific needs.

Covering all aspects of Spanish language learning (speaking, listening, writing and reading skills), the Spanish course is specially designed for foreign students and is taught completely in Spanish. Four 55-minute classes are held every day from Monday through Friday and the student is free to choose the length of his or her course.

Average class size is 3 students per class and there are never more than 5 students in a class. Groups are organized in a way that they will always consist of students possessing the same level of Spanish. NOTE: Due to the nature of the program in Ushuaia, there may be more than one student staying at the teacher's home at any given time. It is also very likely that there may not be any other students of the same level which means the student will have to sign up for private classes. We highly recommend signing up for private classes in order to avoid possible changes upon arrival!

All teachers are Argentine native speakers of Spanish, trained and experienced in teaching Spanish to foreigners. All of them hold a university degree and have a good general knowledge, which is of great importance to the interaction with the students.

The language training follows the contents and progression established in the textbook “Español para Extranjeros”, from the prestigious University of Buenos Aires (U.B.A.). COINED is proud to be the only Argentine Partner Spanish School of UBA. As a result of this co-operation, COINED is authorized to prepare its students with the appropriate material to take exams for the Spanish proficiency certifications: CEB (beginner), CEI (intermediate) and CEA (advanced). The close collaboration with the University of Buenos Aires is a guarantee of the academic excellence of their courses.

USHUAIA
Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, located on the shores of the Beagle Channel and surrounded by the Martial Mounts. Its superlative location allows you to enjoy the surrounding landscape with mixed sea, forest, glaciers and mountains in a small island. Besides, it is a great place for shopping: the whole island is a tax free zone, thus you can find lots of imported goods along with regional products. A fantastic and unique location to learn Spanish.

Another of Ushuaia's attractions is the legendary Jail of the End of the World, now transformed into a museum (Museo del Presidio). A must visit, where there are even wax statues of the most famous criminals that were sent to that place. Also, do not miss the "Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino", a.k.a. the Train of the End of the World which, along with the jail, constitutes an icon of the island. This railway's history is, as almost everything in this city, linked to the prisoners of the mythical jail.

The land areas are scenic, the waters teeming with fish and marine wildlife. Summer is ideal for adventure tourism: Trekkers, mountain climbers, fishing fans, sailors and bikers will enjoy the challenges of Tierra del Fuego. You can even take amazing trips across the Beagle Channel, Cape Horn up to Argentine Antarctica.

Ushuaia is, to the expert eyes of all travelers the strong plate of the south of the globe.
