As Hippocrates famously said, “Let food by thy medicine.” Greece is the birthplace of a unique lifestyle that, to this day, provides an example for health and wellness. During the prep course, students will study connections to physical movement and exercise to a healthy lifestyle, as well as gain competencies in Mediterranean lifestyle practices, such as designing nutritionally balanced meals and cooking techniques. In Athens and Nafplio, Greece, students will experience the Mediterranean lifestyle firsthand by visiting markets, attending a cooking class, and participating in physical exercise with a hike of ancient ruins. Museum visits and guest lectures will demonstrate an evolving visual representation of healthy bodies and how ancient approaches to health care led to modern techniques that address healthful living and disease prevention. This course is most appropriate for students interested in health, nursing, kinesiology, healthy and/or active living, or Greek approaches to medicine and healthcare. The academic course associated with this program is HLT/NUR/KIN 398/399: Lifestyles of the Greek & Healthy. It will be taught by Professors Sally Hyatt and Vicki Talbot. This course fulfills QHW or major elective for HLT majors. This is an OPEN program. *Itinerary and planned activities subject to change.*
