France has long been regarded as one of the most breathtaking places in the world. It is famous for its beautiful views, long history, art and culture, and cafés that serve delicious food. Through this course, students will learn how residents of urban and rural France are encouraged to live healthy lifestyles while still engaging with their culture. Students will explore how health challenges are met in France and when they return to Queens they will develop a project that promotes health in the Charlotte community. During spring break, students will travel to Paris where they will engage with various aspects of French culture. Tours to Notre Dame, Montmartre, Tuileries Gardens and many others are planned. Students will also travel to Beaune in the Cote di Beaune region for a day. Visiting local markets as well as biking throughout the city will allow students to experience how lifestyles in Paris compare to a more rural city in France. At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to compare the history, traditions, culture, health systems, and social structures of urban and rural France to those of the United States. * This course is most appropriate for students interested in Nursing, Health, Public-Health, and French culture. The academic course associated with this program is NUR/HLT 398 and 399 A Votre Santé (to your health) in France for 4 total credits. Students will elect to receive either HLT or NUR credit. It will be taught by Professors Annette Hines and Toy Stone. This is an OPEN program.
